How to setup multi-factor authentication on your account

Multi-factor authentication is another layer of security we add to accounts to ensure that only you can login to your account. It is becoming a more common practice to have this enabled on any of your accounts online as the likely hood of the account being compromised is much less. Here's a little step by step guide to setup MFA on your account.

You will only ever have to set this up once on your phone - unless you get a new one. You will also only ever have to approve a sign in when you are trying to access school resources outside of school (ie, you're at home). If you're at school, you won't be asked as it is a trusted location.

Please read each step carefully and follow the guide

Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on to your phone and when it's downloaded select the work or school account option.

When you have downloaded the app, open it and select 'Add a work or school account' option and then scan QR code.
Then leave it to one side as you will need it later. Go onto your laptop/computer and do the following:

Open https://aka.ms/mfasetup in your desired browser and login with your school email & password.
Make sure this option says 'Notify me through the app'

Tick the 'Authenticator app or Token' and then press 'Set up Authenticator app'

Scan the QR code with your phone.
Press 'Next' on your computer. You may then be asked on your phone to approve a sign in, press 'Allow'.
Then press 'Save'.

Open the application/website that you require and login as you normally would.
After trying that, you will get a notification on your phone asking if you are trying to sign in - press 'Allow'

If you see this notification and you are not trying to login - press deny and change your password immediately.
